OUR STORY

Kima Collections was born from friendship, a shared dream, and two very different, but perfectly complementary, styles. We’re Frederique and Lotte, though you might know us better as Kiek and Maria. Together, our names form Kima, a reflection of the creative bond that brought this brand to life.

Our concept began with a simple frustration: the perfect women’s suit was hard to find. Frederique has always loved oversized blazers, but felt something was missing, a bold, unique twist that made it stand out. Lotte, on the other hand, has a soft spot for matching sets: a coordinated top and trousers that make getting dressed effortless and polished. By blending these two perspectives, we arrived at the heart of Kima: three-piece women’s suits with striking details, designed to empower through style and self-expression.

Our story, however, started long before Kima. We met in high school and became close friends, always sharing a deep passion for fashion. From a young age, we dreamed of creating something of our own, something that felt personal, powerful, and different. That dream took shape when we realized how naturally our skills fit together. Frederique studied Media & Culture and has a sharp eye for branding, photography, and social media. Lotte followed the Entrepreneurship & Retail Management program and brings structure, strategy, and production know-how to the table. Together, we form a team that balances creativity with execution, vision with action.

Kima Collections is more than clothing; it’s a mindset. We design for women who want to stand out without shouting, who value quality and individuality, and who know that confidence starts with how you feel in what you wear.

The history of the women's suit

1920s - 1950s

Redefining Femininity

In the early 20th century, Coco Chanel revolutionized women’s fashion by introducing structured jackets and skirt suits that offered both elegance and comfort, an alternative to restrictive corsets and gowns. Her designs allowed women to move, work, and express independence, setting the tone for generations to come.

1960s - 1980s

Power Dressing Rises

The suit truly evolved in the 1960s when Yves Saint Laurent introduced Le Smoking, the first tuxedo suit designed specifically for women. It was bold, controversial, and deeply empowering. In the 1980s, the women’s suit became a symbol of authority in the corporate world, complete with strong shoulders and sharp tailoring. Brands like Giorgio Armani and Thierry Mugler embraced the concept of power dressing, merging masculinity with elegance.

2000s - Today

Freedom Through Style

Today, the suit is a canvas. Designers like Stella McCartney, The Row, and Alexander McQueen have transformed tailoring into something fluid, artistic, and unapologetically feminine. Suits are now worn beyond the office, for dinners, dates, events, and self-expression. At Kima, we embrace this modern spirit by blending classic tailoring with unexpected details, lace sleeves, studs, fringe, designed to reflect the many sides of the modern woman.
